As students deepen their high school careers, they set their sights on the future.

For many people, this means applying to a four-year university, but some people want to remind students that they have more than one choice.

Dr. Brian Dozer, president of Vital Link, a non-profit organization in Orange County, has been cycling to and meeting with students to raise awareness of vocational and technical education approaches through Pedal-ED fundraising activities.

The bulldozer confirmed on Saturday that it had just exceeded the initial target of $20,000. These funds were raised with the great help of 100 Companies That Care, a charitable organization composed of Orange County enterprises.

Dozer stated that 10 scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded to students who can show proof of admission to community colleges. The scholarship will consider the needs of students from the Orange County area.

“Community colleges don’t have many scholarships, so as an organization focused on Orange County CTE—Vital Link, we really think it’s appropriate to target community colleges,” Dozer said during his stay in Laguna Beach High School Friday . "Again, what we really want to do is to illuminate you, the students and the efforts you are doing."

Dozer speaks to students in a multimedia 3D design course, which is taught by Scott Wittkop.

During the Pedal-ED scholarship program, Dozer has ridden 205 miles in four rides, including a 56-mile ride on Friday.

His itinerary took him to Mission Viejo, Capistrano Valley, Laguna Beach and Irvine High School, as well as the middle schools of Saddleback College and Irvine College.

Some students showed off their works made using 3D printers, laser cutting and engraving machines in the multimedia class.

Henry Miller, a 17-year-old senior, told the host that he taught himself how to make gears for his remote control car in class.

London Boyd, a 17-year-old senior, said that she also applies the skills she has learned to purposes outside of the curriculum.

"I also designed something for our community...because we are about to host a Christmas event," she said. "They wanted a poster, and they asked me to design it."

Kellee Shearer, the career counseling coordinator of the Laguna Beach Unified School District, said the high school offers 14 courses, giving students the opportunity to earn early college credits and take 18 industry certification exams.

"I think we have entered a mentality where everyone must go to college," the regional representative. Dr. Jason Veloria said. "Everyone needs to prepare for the next step in their lives, which means we have to provide a very strong college and career experience so that students can get the skills they need to succeed when they go out, no matter what that may be.

"My philosophy is always to tell children,'Don't close the door to yourself', because you may want to take this path at some point in your life, so always do your best, but also make full use of all kinds of The opportunity you have."
