Sawdust will be flying in the town of Frederick as the Chainsaws & Chuckwagons event roars back into town beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Centennial Park, 630 Eighth St.

Chainsaw carving combines modern tools with the ancient art of woodcarving. Carvers use a wide variety of styles, skills and themes when creating their pieces.

The event will feature 10 wood carvers from seven states and around the world transforming giant logs into amazing pieces of art.

Carvers making an appearance at this year’s festival are:

The carvers will kick off the event Wednesday morning by choosing their logs and setting up booths featuring a variety of pieces, from small wooden paper towel holders to tall outdoor totem poles and everything in between.

Carvers will work on one main masterpiece, as well as participate in “quick carve” competitions. The quick carve competitions pit carvers’ skills and speed against the clock as they race to complete a piece within one hour. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on quick carve pieces after each event, as well as cast their vote for their favorite masterpiece.

When it comes to the “chuckwagon” portion of the festival, attendees can enjoy snacks, desserts, drinks and other food from food trucks such as Cheese Love Grill, Edge Gourmet Street Kitchen, It’s All Greek to Me, Origins Pizza, Snowy Churro, Ting’s Things and other vendors. A beer garden will also be at the event.

A new feature this year to the festival is the Axe Women Loggers of Maine, an all-female team of logging sports athletes that includes world champion choppers, sawyers, log rollers and ax throwers. The lumber-jills are prepared to bring some high-energy entertainment for attendees of all ages with nine shows throughout the festival.

On Friday, attendees will have the opportunity to shop at the farmers market that is scheduled to take place 4-8 p.m. at the festival. The market will feature fresh produce, baked goods, arts and crafts, dairy products and more.

The event will wrap up at 7 p.m. Saturday with an auction of pieces created in the day’s quick carve competitions as well as the announcement of the Chainsaw Carving Champion.

Admission into Chainsaws & Chuckwagons is free, and all ages are welcome to attend. Attendees will want to bring cash or debit or credit cards in the event they wish to purchase food, drinks or artwork and items displayed at the festival. Carvers and food trucks do not accept checks.
